Our History
Henson's Music Center was established in 1952 by Art Henson, a band master from Utah. Originally located on 6th street, "Henson's Venetian Blinds and Music Center" soon expanded and moved to 5th street to better meet the music needs of the Oxnard community. The music side of the business continued to grow, and by 1966, the business was moved to 3rd Street simply as "Henson's Music Center".
Art Henson's efforts in sharing the joy of music and meeting the needs of a growing community transformed the store into a local landmark and family legacy. After his retirement, Art continued to be very involved in the community, teaching band at Santa Clara High School, singing in the local Barbershop Quartet group, and much more. Henson's Music Center has seen many changes over the decades, but has always stayed a family music store, now run by his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Joan Henson, and granddaughter Lisa Henson. For over 60 years, it has been our joy and privilege to help Ventura County musicians explore the wonderful world of music!
